Cadet Chandler Sambets takes first place in Bulldog Business Bowl

Hybrid Drone (HD) Flight Technologies is the first place winner of The Citadel's fourth annual Bulldog Business Bowl competition. The team was awarded $10,000 to start their business. HD Flight Technologies specializes in research that increases a drone's flight time. They also produce a hybrid drone accessory kit that helps increase flight time. Each kit comes with a solar panel, a battery and a 3D printed mount.

The team consists of Chandler Sambets of Hanahan, South Carolina as well as Matthew Townsend, Scott Roudabush and William Brown.

The Bulldog Business Bowl, hosted by the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business, is a competition aimed at budding Citadel entrepreneurs who have an idea for a new product or service and the desire to turn that idea into a business.

More than 26 teams submitted entry packages for the first round of the competition in November 2017. After making an elevator pitch to a judging committee in December, five teams were selected for the final round of the competition, which took place on Thursday, April 19. During the finals, each team presented a fully developed business plan that included marketing, financial projections and pricing and production strategies. Teams were assigned mentors and were able to attend educational workshops to help them develop their business plans.
