Grant Eversmann among The Citadel's best-drilled cadets

Cadet Pvt. Grant Eversmann of Columbia, SC, is a member of the best-drilled squad at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina

Each year The Citadel's 20 cadet companies compete for the Kelly Cup, which is awarded annually to the best-drill Fourth Class (freshman) squad in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Preliminary competitions are held in early October with the final contest held during the annual Parents' Weekend activities.

The Kelly Cup is named in memory of the late Capt. Benjamin E. Kelly Jr., Citadel Class of 1961.

This year Echo, Sierra, Foxtrot and Hotel companies competed for the trophy. Sierra Company was awarded the trophy during Parents' Weekend activities on Oct. 15, 2011.

Cadet Eversmann is a Civil Engineering major in his first year at The Citadel.

Leading Sierra Company to the 2011 Kelly Cup was Cadet Sgt. Benjamin Canipe of Hickory, N.C., a junior biology major.

The Citadel, founded in 1842, is a co-educational military college located in picturesque Charleston, S.C. More than 2,100 undergraduate students are enrolled in the leadership development program within the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Another 1,200 civilian students are enrolled in The Citadel Graduate College, an evening program that offers graduate-level degree programs and a select undergraduate degree programs.
