Robert Imhoff participates in Corps-wide speaking competition finals

Robert Imhoff of Upperco, MD (21155) was one of five finalists to participate in The Citadel's Henry Dale Smith Corps-Wide Speaking Competition on Tuesday, March 27.

Cadets who took part in the contest spoke for five to seven minutes on any topic that was informational, persuasive or inspirational.

The finalists' chosen topics included race, leadership and religion. They were titled:

  • "A Tribute to Diogenes" by Careem Gates
  • "Who Am I?" by Cynthia Martinez
  • "Awkward Silences" by Hudson Imhoff
  • "Train with Intensity" by Maxwell Miller
  • "I Won't Complain" by Michael Rice

A panel of judges selected Imhoff as the winner and Gates as runner-up of the eighth annual competition. As winner, Imhoff received the Henry Dale Smith Public Speaking Award and a cash prize. Additionally, he will be recognized at the college's annual Commencement Week Awards Convocation in May. Gates, the runner-up, also received a cash prize.

The speaking competition was hosted by The Patricia McArver Public Speaking Lab, where Citadel students, faculty and staff can polish their public speaking skills. From timid talkers to confident communicators, The Public Speaking Lab works one-on-one with a variety of individuals to create great presenters.
