The Citadel, with its iconic campus located in Charleston, South Carolina, offers a classic military college education profoundly focused on leadership excellence and academic distinction. Graduates are not required to serve in the military but about one-third of each class commission as officers in every branch of U.S. military service. Graduates of The Citadel have served the nation, their states and their communities as principled leaders since the college was founded in 1842.

The Citadel Graduate College offers 26 graduate degree programs with 42 concentration options, 25 graduate certificate programs and 10 evening undergraduate programs, through an all-evening schedule with many courses now available online. The Citadel was named Best Public College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for seven consecutive years, and #1 Best Public College for Veterans in the South as well as Best Value out of all South Carolina colleges and universities by Forbes.

2015 Palmetto Medal Award presented for excellence in leadership at The Citadel

The Palmetto Medal Award was created by the college's Board of Visitors to recognize cadets, faculty, staff or alumni for exceptional performance that reflects great credit on the college or the state of South Carolina. The Palmetto Medal is the second highest honor bestowed by the college. The first is an honorary degree.

The Citadel's Commandant of Cadets designated commanders, regimental staff, sergeants major and first sergeants for the Class of 2016 and 2017. They will assume their stations when the fall semester begins.

The Citadel presents the new Class of 2016 Summerall Guards

Every year, The Citadel names 61 new cadets to the Summerall Guards, an elite group of (senior) cadets who go through a rigorous physical training and initiation process and are chosen for their physical stamina and drill proficiency. The Guards are a silent precision drill platoon that demonstrate The Citadel ideals of honor, integrity, loyalty, leadership, self-discipline and patriotism.

Veteran student Erik Eisenach, a senior electrical engineering major at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, was recently accepted into MIT's electrical engineering and computer science graduate program.

Cadets Promoted

The following students have been been selected for a leadership position in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. The announcement was made this spring by Commandant of Cadets Col. Leo Mercado, USMC retired. The promotion list includes the regimental commander, the top ranking member of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, and company and battalion commanders. The student military officers assume their new roles in the fall.

The 2014 Summerall Guards, a silent drill platoon at The Citadel, made its debut during Corps Day Weekend March 9, 2013. The Corps of Cadets this year celebrated its 170th birthday. The following cadets are among 61 rising seniors that have gone through rigorous drill and physical training to be selected as members of the Summerall Guards. Cadets are chosen for their ability to precisely execute selected portions of the drill series they will perform as Summerall Guards, as well as, their demonstrated level of physical fitness and stamina

Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs in the nation. Nominations are based on strength of character, academic achievement, military achievement, leadership, campus activities and participation and excellence in athletics at the varsity, intramural or club sport level.
