The Citadel, with its iconic campus located in Charleston, South Carolina, offers a classic military college education profoundly focused on leadership excellence and academic distinction. Graduates are not required to serve in the military but about one-third of each class commission as officers in every branch of U.S. military service. Graduates of The Citadel have served the nation, their states and their communities as principled leaders since the college was founded in 1842.

The Citadel Graduate College offers 26 graduate degree programs with 42 concentration options, 25 graduate certificate programs and 10 evening undergraduate programs, through an all-evening schedule with many courses now available online. The Citadel was named Best Public College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for seven consecutive years, and #1 Best Public College for Veterans in the South as well as Best Value out of all South Carolina colleges and universities by Forbes.

The Citadel Graduate College Class of 2023

The Citadel Graduate College Class of 2023 accepted their degrees during the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 6. Almost 400 undergraduate transfer and graduate students participated in the spring commencement events. For the graduate program, top academic programs included a Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Project Management, Master of Science in Leadership, Master of Education in Counselor Education and a Master of Science in Health Exercise Sport Science. Graduates accepted their diploma from President of The Citadel Gen. Glenn W. Walters, USMC (Ret.), Class of 1979.

South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2023

The South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2023 are now part of the Long Gray Line. More than 500 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets accepted their degrees during the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 6. Approximately 30% of the graduating cadets accepted commissions as officers into the U.S. Armed Services. The top academic programs for the Class of 2023 included Intelligence and Security Studies, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Criminal Justice. Graduates accepted their diploma from President of The Citadel Gen. Glenn W. Walters, USMC (Ret.), Class of 1979.

South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2022

The South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2022 made history as one of The Citadel's largest incoming classes when they arrived on campus four years ago. Now, after two years of modified graduation ceremonies, more than 600 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and more than 500 students from The Citadel Graduate College accepted their degrees during the commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 7. The day before commencement, about 30% of the graduating cadets accepted commissions as officers into the U.S. Armed Services. Among those who accepted commissions are the first two Citadel cadets to join the U.S. Space Force: Conor William Deans, Space Operations Officer, and Jack O. Schwartz, Developmental Engineer. Another significant accomplishment from the Class of 2022 include two cadets tying for the position of First Honor Graduate - Steven Jones and Ashley Ruiz. Ruiz, along with William Jenson and Martynas Tendzegolskis, comprise the first group to graduate through The Citadel Distinguished Scholars Program, a rigorous academic initiative that develops the brightest and most ambitious cadets and students for success in top-tier graduate schools and for leadership roles in their future careers. The top academic programs for the Class of 2022 included Business Administration, Intelligence and Security Studies, Criminal Justice, Mechanical Engineering and Political Science. Graduates accepted their diploma from President of The Citadel Gen. Glenn W. Walters, USMC (Ret.), Class of 1979.

The Citadel Graduate College Class of 2021

The Citadel Graduate College Class of 2021 celebrated commencement in McAlister Field House on campus during two ceremonies on Sunday, May 9. More than 230 undergraduate transfer and graduate students participated in the spring commencement events. Nearly 200 graduates recieved their master's degree and more than 70 were presented with a bachelor's degree. The CGC graduates were welcomed as alumni by the President of The Citadel Alumni Association, Cmdr. Drury C. "Chip" Nimmich, Jr., USN (Ret.).

South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2021

More than 560 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets accepted diplomas during The Citadel's commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 8 in McAlister Field House. In addition to graduating, about 27% of the class accepted commissions as U.S. military officers in all branches of service. Graduates accepted their diploma from President of The Citadel Gen. Glenn W. Walters, USMC (Ret.), Class of 1979. As once of his last official acts, the outgoing Commandant of Cadets, CAPT. Eugene Paluso, USN (Ret.), '89, served as the 2021 commencement speaker for both morning and afternoon ceremonies. The top academic programs for the Class of 2021 included business administration, criminal justice, intelligence and cyber security, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and political science.

Class of 2021 wears the ring

The seniors of the Class of 2021 were celebrated with a traditional Ring Presentation Ceremony at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, in McAlister Field House, attended by the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, Veteran and Active Duty students. Attendance at the ceremony was restricted to only ring-eligible seniors due to the need for social distancing to reduce the spread of COVID-19, but the event included the same rich traditions that recipients anticipated for this important milestone.

Cadet Col. Ben Snyder earns John O. Willson Ring

The Class of 2020 voted to award the John O. Willson Ring to Cadet Col. Richard "Ben" Snyder, regimental commander for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Snyder is a Business Administration major from Powell, Ohio. The John O. Willson Ring has been awarded annually since 1911 to a senior elected by their peers as the finest, purest and most courteous member of the class. Because of his outstanding leadership abilities, Snyder was selected to serve as Regimental Commander, responsible for the success and well being of 2,300 cadets. Academically, Snyder has excelled, earning Dean's List recognition for all eight semesters. He is a distinguished military graduate and will enter the Army as an officer, where his first assignment is to attend the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course in Fort Benning, Georgia.

South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2020

Nearly 600 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets accepted diplomas during The Citadel's virtual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9. In addition to graduating, about 30% of the class accepted commissions as U.S. military officers in all branches of service. The Citadel Class of 2020 was celebrated for their achievements during two virtual commencement ceremonies. Both can be viewed on the college's Facebook page and on a special commencement website. Part of the virtual commencement celebrations included creating a webpage for each graduate, where they and their loved ones can share messages. In total, more than 6,000 messages were left on the commencement profile pages. By the numbers, the ceremony included: 590 cadets from 33 states Approximately 210 cadets are earning commissions in all branches of U.S. Armed Forces to become new officers. These ceremonies were also virtual, managed by each ROTC branch. 26 veteran students 4 active duty students

The Citadel Class of 2020 was celebrated for their achievements during two virtual commencement ceremonies, one for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and one for the CGC. Both can be viewed on the college's Facebook page and on a special commencement website. Part of the virtual commencement celebrations included creating a webpage for each graduate, where they and their loved ones can share messages. The Citadel celebrates its inaugural class of nursing graduates

For the first time, graduates from The Citadel are holding Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. Twenty one of the nation's newest nurses particiated in the college's commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 4. The group of 20 evening undergraduates, and one cadet nursing student, share the honor of making history for the college as the inaugural nursing class. Before graduating, the class took part in the college's first Nurse Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, May 2, in Buyer Auditorium on campus. The ceremony is a long standing tradition in the nursing industry and represents a symbolic welcoming of new nurses into the profession.

That number includes 350 who received a master's degree and 98 who earned a bachelor's degree. Graduates accepted their diploma from Citadel alumnus Gen. Glenn W. Walters, USMC (Ret.), who was officiating as president for the first time. The top graduate programs for the Class of 2019 included a education, business administration and project management. The top evening undergraduate programs for the graduating class included business administration, nursing and electrical engineering.

The Citadel Class of 2017's second honor graduate

The David Shingler Spell Second Honor Graduate Award is presented to the first-class cadet graduate who has earned the second highest cumulative grade point ratio based on all courses taken at The Citadel. The recipient receives an inscribed plaque and a stipend to be used for educational expenses at the graduate level or at the discretion of the recipient.

Citadel Class of 2016 announced

Members of The Citadel Class of 2016 were recognized for excellence in leadership, service and academics. The South Carolina Corps of Cadets celebrated the graduation of over 550 cadets, 11 active duty students and 27 veteran students from 32 states on May 7, 2016. Of those cadets, 151 were commissioned as officers. Top areas of study for the class included business administration, engineering, political science and criminal justice.

Veteran students graduate from The Citadel's Evening Undergraduate Program

Students who attended Evening Undergraduate Courses through The Citadel Graduate School received their diplomas May 10, 2014. The Class of 2014 was the largest graduating class in recent memory with degree candidates including 522 cadets, 5 veteran cadets, 13 active duty, and 8 veteran day students, as well as 324 graduates from the evening program who will receive master's, specialist and undergraduate degrees. The total number of graduates is 872.

The SC Corps of Cadets celebrated the graduation of 493 seniors from 36 states on May 10, 2014. Of those cadets, 158 were commissioned as officers. Veteran students were also among the graduates.
