The Citadel, with its iconic campus located in Charleston, South Carolina, offers a classic military college education profoundly focused on leadership excellence and academic distinction. Graduates are not required to serve in the military but about one-third of each class commission as officers in every branch of U.S. military service. Graduates of The Citadel have served the nation, their states and their communities as principled leaders since the college was founded in 1842.

The Citadel Graduate College offers 26 graduate degree programs with 42 concentration options, 25 graduate certificate programs and 10 evening undergraduate programs, through an all-evening schedule with many courses now available online. The Citadel was named Best Public College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for seven consecutive years, and #1 Best Public College for Veterans in the South as well as Best Value out of all South Carolina colleges and universities by Forbes.

Algernon Sydney Sullivan Awards presented to cadet-scholar

The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award was presented to Cadet Olivia Jones during The Citadel virtual commencement on May 9. The awards are presented annually through the New York Southern Society to a student and faculty member in recognition of high thought and noble endeavor. Cadet Olivia Jones is an Honors Program student, majoring in Political Science with a concentration in Military Affairs. Jones also serves as the Papa Company Commander, maintaining company morale while also adhering to the highest ethical standards. Jones has demonstrated her commitment as a servant-leader throughout her time at The Citadel, creating a Summer Food Service Program providing 3,700 meals to low-income families, promoting quality of life initiatives for Native American families in New Mexico, and providing community training for the most vulnerable in those communities.

The David Shingler Spell First and Second Honor Graduates

The David Shingler Spell First and Second Honor Graduates are the two cadets whose grade-point averages are the highest in each graduating class, based on the total college record of that class. Recipients of the awards receive a plaque and a stipend for educational expenses at the graduate level.

The Citadel produces more officers through its ROTC programs than almost any college in America. This spring approximately 93 cadets are expected to commission in all branches of military service. The Citadel's Joint ROTC Awards formally observed over 100 outstanding members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets on Thursday, March 23 at McAlister Field House. Annually, each ROTC unit honors exemplary cadets for both scholastic and military excellence.
