Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs in the nation. Nominations are based on strength of character, academic achievement, military achievement, leadership, campus activities and participation and excellence in athletics at the varsity, intramural or club sport level. The following students were recognized during the annual Commencement Week Awards Convocationon May 3.

The 2013 Summerall Guards, a silent drill platoon at The Citadel, made its debut during Corps Day Weekend March 17, 2012. The following cadets are among 61 rising seniors who have gone through a rigorous physical training and initiation process to be selected for membership. Members are chosen for their physical stamina and drill proficiency and come from every company in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.

Twelve students at The Citadel will travel to abroad this summer thanks to a grant from The Citadel's Star of the West Foundation. The Star of the West International Summer Scholars is a one-time grant to support the academic enrichment of cadets whose project proposals presented a clear connection between the summer experience and their goals after graduation. The cadets and active duty military students received grants totaling $73,053 from the Star of the West Foundation, which helps make this type of opportunity possible.

The following students have been named to the fall 2011 Commandant's Distinguished Service List at The Citadel. Citadel cadets named to the Commandant's List are recognized for having made the most positive contributions to their platoon, company, battalion, or staff, the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and The Citadel.

The President's List is the most distinguished awards list on which a cadet can be placed. It indicates excellence in academics and military duties.The President's List is a combination of the Dean's List and the Commandant's Distinguished Service List, which is composed of cadets who contribute the most to their companies and who have excellent military and academic records.

The following students have been selected to become the leaders in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. Col. Leo Mercado, commandant of cadets, announced last spring the top cadet leadership for the 2011-2012 academic school year. The list includes the regimental commander, the top ranking member of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, and company and battalion commanders. The student military officers, all of which are seniors, return to campus for leadership training on Aug. 1, 2011.
