The Citadel, with its iconic campus located in Charleston, South Carolina, offers a classic military college education profoundly focused on leadership excellence and academic distinction. Graduates are not required to serve in the military but about one-third of each class commission as officers in every branch of U.S. military service. Graduates of The Citadel have served the nation, their states and their communities as principled leaders since the college was founded in 1842.

The Citadel Graduate College offers 26 graduate degree programs with 42 concentration options, 25 graduate certificate programs and 10 evening undergraduate programs, through an all-evening schedule with many courses now available online. The Citadel was named Best Public College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for seven consecutive years, and #1 Best Public College for Veterans in the South as well as Best Value out of all South Carolina colleges and universities by Forbes.

2015 Palmetto Medal Award presented for excellence in leadership at The Citadel

The Palmetto Medal Award was created by the college's Board of Visitors to recognize cadets, faculty, staff or alumni for exceptional performance that reflects great credit on the college or the state of South Carolina. The Palmetto Medal is the second highest honor bestowed by the college. The first is an honorary degree.

The Citadel presents the new Class of 2016 Summerall Guards

Every year, The Citadel names 61 new cadets to the Summerall Guards, an elite group of (senior) cadets who go through a rigorous physical training and initiation process and are chosen for their physical stamina and drill proficiency. The Guards are a silent precision drill platoon that demonstrate The Citadel ideals of honor, integrity, loyalty, leadership, self-discipline and patriotism.

Veteran students graduate from The Citadel's Evening Undergraduate Program

Students who attended Evening Undergraduate Courses through The Citadel Graduate School received their diplomas May 10, 2014. The Class of 2014 was the largest graduating class in recent memory with degree candidates including 522 cadets, 5 veteran cadets, 13 active duty, and 8 veteran day students, as well as 324 graduates from the evening program who will receive master's, specialist and undergraduate degrees. The total number of graduates is 872.

New Graduates of The Citadel are Announced

Members of The Citadel Class of 2014 were recognized for excellence in leadership, service and academics. The SC Corps of Cadets celebrated the graduation of 493 seniors from 36 states on May 10, 2014. Of those cadets, 158 were commissioned as officers. Veteran students were also among the graduates. Top areas of study for the class included business administration, engineering, political science and criminal justice.
