The Citadel

The award is presented to the top Naval ROTC student in the disciplines of electrical or communications science. The award is being presented for the first time at The Citadel.

The award is presented to a graduating member of the Corps of Cadets who exemplifies the finest traditions of The Citadel and best represents the end result of its mission.

The award is presented to a first class cadet who has demonstrated qualities of military leadership, discipline, and citizenship. The key attributes considered in this selection are service to others, dedication to values, and honor to self and country.

The award is presented to the senior cadet, scheduled for Air Force commissioning, who has achieved the highest cumulative grade point average over the entire spectrum of academic coursework during his or her cadet career.

The award is presented to the senior cadet scheduled for commissioning who most exemplifies the core values of the United States Air Force.

Citadel cadets form first club of its kind, Student Learning Disabilities Association of The Citadel (SLDAC), to promote awareness and support for the education of people with learning disabilities, their families, and those who teach them.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.

The Citadel's Chapter of The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi celebrated its 36th anniversary in 2015 by inducting 79 new members, including including six accomplished faculty, staff and distinguished alumnus, and 73 cadets and students.

The Citadel's Commandant of Cadets designated commanders, regimental staff, sergeants major and first sergeants for the Class of 2016 and 2017. They will assume their stations when the fall semester begins.

The Palmetto Medal Award was created by the college's Board of Visitors to recognize cadets, faculty, staff or alumni for exceptional performance that reflects great credit on the college or the state of South Carolina. The Palmetto Medal is the second highest honor bestowed by the college. The first is an honorary degree.

Every year, The Citadel names 61 new cadets to the Summerall Guards, an elite group of (senior) cadets who go through a rigorous physical training and initiation process and are chosen for their physical stamina and drill proficiency. The Guards are a silent precision drill platoon that demonstrate The Citadel ideals of honor, integrity, loyalty, leadership, self-discipline and patriotism.

Dean's List recognition is given to cadets registered for 12 or more semester hours and whose grade point average is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester's work.

Veteran student Erik Eisenach, a senior electrical engineering major at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, was recently accepted into MIT's electrical engineering and computer science graduate program.

The President's List is one of the most distinguished cadet awards presented by The Citadel. It indicates excellence in academics and military duties. The list is a combination of the Dean's List and the Commandant's Distinguished List and is composed of cadets who contribute the most to their companies while maintaining excellent military and academic records.

Gold Stars are awarded by The Citadel to cadets who have made a grade point ratio of 3.7 or higher for the work accomplished in the fall semester of 2014.

The Citadel's Chapter of The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2014 by inducting 93 new members, including two accomplished faculty members, a distinguished alumnus, and 90 students.

Members of The Citadel Graduate College were recognized for completing advanced degrees earned for excellence in leadership, service and academics.

Cadet Evan M. Grant, a junior civil engineering student at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., recently received the 2014 "Mac" Nigels Scholarship.

Cadet Daniel J. McCullough, a senior civil engineering student at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., recently received the 2014 Gilbert H. Rowe Transportation Engineering Scholarship presented by the Institute of Transportation Engineers, South Carolina Section.

Cadet James McManus, a junior education major and the regimental public affairs NCO for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, was recently named governor of the South Carolina Student Legislature.

Students who attended Evening Undergraduate Courses through The Citadel Graduate School received their diplomas May 10, 2014. The Class of 2014 was the largest graduating class in recent memory with degree candidates including 522 cadets, 5 veteran cadets, 13 active duty, and 8 veteran day students, as well as 324 graduates from the evening program who will receive master's, specialist and undergraduate degrees. The total number of graduates is 872.

Dean's List Spring 2013-2014 The Citadel has announced the names of students of The Citadel Graduate College who are taking evening undergraduate courses and have earned recognition for academic achievement during the spring semester of 2014. Dean's List recognition is earned by those whose grade point ratio is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester's work.

On May 10, 2014, 98 individuals graduated with advanced degrees from The Citadel Graduate College.

Members of The Citadel Class of 2014 were recognized for excellence in leadership, service and academics. The SC Corps of Cadets celebrated the graduation of 493 seniors from 36 states on May 10, 2014. Of those cadets, 158 were commissioned as officers. Veteran students were also among the graduates. Top areas of study for the class included business administration, engineering, political science and criminal justice.

The following student earned Gold Stars at The Citadel for the spring semester of the 2013-2014 academic year. The honor signifies academic excellence for earning a 3.7 grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale.
