The Newman Civic Fellowship is a national award that honors inspiring college student leaders who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country.

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, honored the following students with Gold Stars for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2015-2016 academic year. Gold Stars are awarded to students that achieve a 3.7 grade point average or higher. Students that achieve Gold Star recognition are also placed on The Citadel's Dean's List.

Members of The Citadel Class of 2016 were recognized for excellence in leadership, service and academics. The South Carolina Corps of Cadets celebrated the graduation of over 550 cadets, 11 active duty students and 27 veteran students from 32 states on May 7, 2016. Of those cadets, 151 were commissioned as officers. Top areas of study for the class included business administration, engineering, political science and criminal justice.

On May 7, 2016, over 250 individuals were recognized for earning certificates, evening undergraduate and advanced degrees.

On May 6, 2016, 16 men and women from The Citadel commissioned into the Navy.

On May 6, 2016, 15 men and women from The Citadel commissioned into the Marine Corps.

On May 6, 2016, 104 men and women from The Citadel commissioned into the Army.

Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs in the nation. Nominations are based on strength of character, academic achievement, military achievement, leadership, campus activities and participation and excellence in athletics at the varsity, intramural or club sport level.

The Citadel's Commandant of Cadets has designated commanders, regimental staff, sergeants major and first sergeants for the Class of 2017.

The Citadel's chapter of The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi celebrated its 37th anniversary in 2016 by inducting 50 new members, including three accomplished faculty and 47 cadets and students.

The Tommy Baker Fellows program awards fellowships each academic year and includes a $5,000 stipend for tuition and educational expenses and an individualized internship experience overseen by The Citadel Career Services division, which offers academic credit as well as a customized educational experience.
