The Citadel, with its iconic campus located in Charleston, South Carolina, offers a classic military college education profoundly focused on leadership excellence and academic distinction. Graduates are not required to serve in the military but about one-third of each class commission as officers in every branch of U.S. military service. Graduates of The Citadel have served the nation, their states and their communities as principled leaders since the college was founded in 1842.

The Citadel Graduate College offers 26 graduate degree programs with 42 concentration options, 25 graduate certificate programs and 10 evening undergraduate programs, through an all-evening schedule with many courses now available online. The Citadel was named Best Public College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for seven consecutive years, and #1 Best Public College for Veterans in the South as well as Best Value out of all South Carolina colleges and universities by Forbes.

Cadets and students awarded gold stars for fall 2018 semester

Gold stars were awarded to cadets and students at The Citadel who achieved a 3.7 grade point average or higher in the fall 2018 semester. Cadets and students who achieve gold star recognition are also placed on The Citadel's dean's list.

Cadets of The Citadel Class of 2019 received their rings on Friday, Oct. 12. The Citadel ring, known as the band of gold, symbolizes more than just a cadet's time spent as a member of The South Carolina Corps of Cadets or their time in the classroom. It symbolizes the military college's core values of honor, duty and respect; the same values Citadel cadets take with them to positions of leadership and service around the world after they graduate.

Cadet-athletes named to Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll

The Citadel was represented by 163 cadet-athletes on the 2017-18 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll. The Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll consists of student-athletes at member institutions who achieve at least a 3.0 grade-point average for the academic year while being a member of the final squad list during their sport's traditional season. Recipients must have been eligible to compete throughout the entire academic year.

Joseph Wendling recognized as best-drilled cadet

Joseph Wendling has been named the South Carolina Corps of Cadets best-drilled cadet. Wendling, who is from Fairhope, Alabama, went up against more than 40 cadets for the title during The Citadel's Star of the West competition Wednesday, May 5. The competition, which began at The Citadel in 1886, is an annual event that recognizes and celebrates the precision required in military maneuvers and leadership positions in general. As best-drilled cadet, Wendling will have his name engraved on the Star of the West monument on Summerall Field. The monument was raised in 1961, 100 years after Citadel cadets fired upon the Star of the West ship in the Civil War. Inscribed on the monument are all Star of the West competition winners. Wendling will also be awarded the Star of the West medal, which contains wood from the old ship, during the South Carolina Corps of Cadets Awards Convocation on Thursday, May 3.
