The Citadel, with its iconic campus located in Charleston, South Carolina, offers a classic military college education profoundly focused on leadership excellence and academic distinction. Graduates are not required to serve in the military but about one-third of each class commission as officers in every branch of U.S. military service. Graduates of The Citadel have served the nation, their states and their communities as principled leaders since the college was founded in 1842.

The Citadel Graduate College offers 26 graduate degree programs with 42 concentration options, 25 graduate certificate programs and 10 evening undergraduate programs, through an all-evening schedule with many courses now available online. The Citadel was named Best Public College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for seven consecutive years, and #1 Best Public College for Veterans in the South as well as Best Value out of all South Carolina colleges and universities by Forbes.

Citadel cadets, faculty and partners honored for civic engagement

Citadel cadets, faculty and partners are being recognized for their commitment to service learning and civic engagement by South Carolina Campus Compact (SCCC). SCCC is a coalition of 17 South Carolina colleges and universities that collaborate to promote and develop the civic purposes of higher education. As a SCCC member, The Citadel annually nominates candidates for the South Carolina Civic Engagement Leadership Awards. All nominees were honored, and some won statewide awards, during the 2018 Civic Engagement Leadership Summit on Friday, April 13. The nominees were recognized on campus during an awards ceremony on Friday, April 20.

Students return from Citadel at Sea sailing-abroad tour

Citadel cadets and students learned about leadership and teamwork while studying, living aboard and helping crew Charleston's iconic Spirit of South Carolina schooner during the college's first Citadel at Sea program. The semester program on the Spirit began Jan. 18 and concluded on April 18, when the ship returned to the Charleston Maritime Center. During the trip, students sailed to the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. Citadel professors met the ship at the ports-of-call to provide tours and instruction, as well as to lead the students on service-learning experiences.

Five teams presented as finalists in the fourth annual Bulldog Business Bowl competition. After a day of presentating final business plans, Hybrid Drone (HD) Flight Technologies took home first place and $10,000 to start their business. The Bulldog Business Bowl, hosted by the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business, is a competition aimed at budding Citadel entrepreneurs who have an idea for a new product or service and the desire to turn that idea into a business.

Citadel cadets attend Free Enterprise Forum

Three Citadel cadets attended the Free Enterprise Forum April 9-10 at the College of the Ozarks. The two-day forum included sessions with guest speakers Dr. Burt Folsom, professor of history and management at Hillsdale College; Mary Propes-Reynolds, chairwoman of VDV Group, LLC, a family business; and Toby Rush, CEO of ZOLOZ, a digital identity solutions company. The keynote speaker of the event was Steve Forbes, chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media. After each guest speaker, students participated in break-out sessions that facilitated in-depth discussion. In addition to The Citadel representatives from Evangel University, Georgia Military College, Marion Military Institute, Marine Military Academy, New Mexico Military Institute, Southwest Baptist University, U.S. Naval Academy, Virginia Military Institute and Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets also attended the forum.

David Knight Scholarship awarded to Citadel cadet-athlete

Citadel track and field cadet-athlete Madyson Riegel was named the recipient of the Southern Conference's David Knight Scholarship. Riegel has competed for both the Bulldogs' women's soccer and track and field teams, earning SoCon All-Freshman honors on both teams before becoming a two-time SoCon champion in the javelin, setting and then breaking the school record in the event each year of her career so far. Recipients of the David Knight Scholarship are nominated by their schools and selected by the Southern Conference Graduate Scholar Committee. The scholarships, worth $2,000 each, are awarded to student-athletes about to receive their undergraduate degrees who intend to pursue advanced degrees in graduate or professional school.
